2017 Kimunyong Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships ends
WT G1 sanctioned event… About 2,500 athletes and officials attends
The 2017 Kimunyong Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships(Kimunyong Cup) closed at Kukkiwon on November 1.
The purpose of the event is to honor former Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Un-Young Kim, who contributed to taekwondo globalization and made taekwondo an official sport in the Olympic Games.
Kimunyong Cup was held at Hanyang University Olympic stadium from Oct 28 to Oct 31, and the championships ended at Kukkiwon.
About 2,500 athletes and officials participated in the championships, and three types of taekwondo events(Kyorugi, Poomsae and Gyeongyeon) were held.

The World Taekwondo(WT) G1 sanctioned event(Kyorugi and Poomsae) has allowed athletes to capture their ranking points.
A total of five senior Korean athletes won gold medals in the women’s under 53kg Min-Ah Ha; women’s under 57kg Geum-Byeol Lim; women’s under 73kg Da-Bin Lee; men’s under 58kg Chan-Ho Jung and men’s under 68kg Ji-Min Park.
In addition, Taiwan got good results, entering many athletes who are on the senior national team.
During the opening ceremony, which was held on Oct 28, many high-profile figures graced the event with their presence, including Korean Sport and Olympic Committee President Kee-heung Lee, Chairman of the Board of Kukkiwon Sung-chon Hong, Kukkiwon President Hyun-deuk Oh, and Korea Taekwondo Association(KTA) President Chang-shin Choi.
The last day of the championships ended with four senior weight divisions in the men’s under 77kg, men’s over 87kg, women’s under 62kg and women’s over 73kg.
The Kimunyoung cup International Open Taekwondo Championships was co-hosted by Kimunyoung Sport Committee and Kukkiwon. The International Open Taekwondo Championships Organizing Committee organized the event. And the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Korean Sport & Olympic Committee; Korea Sports Promotion Foundation; WT; KTA; Asian Taekwondo Union; Taekwondo Promotion Foundation; Women's news Inc and Hanyang University also supported the event.
