International Taekwondo Federation(ITF) demonstration teams from North Korea will participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, which will run from February 9.
The head of delegations from South and North Koreas agreed the participation of North Korea's delegation in the upcoming event at the Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone in Paju, South Korea, Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.

According to their reports, the North did agree to send a large delegation of athletes, cheerleaders, an art troupe and ITF taekwondo demonstration teams.
"We expect that the Olympic will bring harmony and unity to South and North Koreas, as the North agreed to send their cheering team, troupe, taekwondo demonstration teams," South Korea government said. "It will be a chance to show the world our unity and peace of mind to gather opinions from both koreas about having a joint parade and holding joint cultural events.“
The participation of ITF demonstration teams will be in eight months after the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships in Muju in Jun 2017. The total number of 36 members of the ITF demonstration team had received great attention, performing its unique power demonstration in Muju, Seoul and Jeonju.
At the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships, World Taekwondo(WT) and ITF had agreed to send WT demonstration teams to ITF World Taekwondo Championships in Pyongyang in September. Unfortunately, the plan was scrapped because of the high tensions that have risen the North’s ICBM test.
But this month, North Korean leader Jong-un Kim said in his New Year’s speech that the North is willing to send a delegation to the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics and it helped arrange the ITF demonstration team’s visit.
According to this, World Taekwondo President Chung-won Choue said:
"It will be Inter-Korean relations for Inter-Korean relations and taekwondo for taekwondo. Despite the visit to Pyongyang last year has been canceled, we believe that the agreement is a result of mutual trust between WT and ITF that have built steadily over the last 14 years," He continued. “Don't be hesitant, and just go forward gradually based on our trust. It is obvious taekwondo plays a big symbolic role in inter-Korean relations, Olympics, and world peace.“
